Jordan Telecom Fund


Serving all Jordanians since 1971 as the state's monopoly provider of telecommunication services, Jordan Telecom is well aware of its role in contributing to the social and economic development of Jordan.

Jordan Telecom’s commitment to socio-economic development and to provide a better life for Jordanians is deeply rooted in its strategies and futuristic vision. Therefore, the birth of Jordan Telecom Fund came upon Jordan Telecom's belief that its role must extend beyond the provision of advanced technologies and products to reach out to all sectors through effective social participation.
Jordan Telecom Fund is in charge of all social, educational and humanitarian activities the company undertakes.

UNESCO's Reward
Since its establishment in April 2003, Jordan Telecom's Computer Lab has completed 48 training courses and certified more than 711 people with the International Computer Driver’s License (ICDL), accredited by UNESCO.
The lab was setup to provide free of charge training to civil servants and employees in the various public institutions and non-profit organizations, in a bid to assist the government in upgrading the competency of its employees in preparation for the future e-government.

Internet Bus
Jordan Telecom Fund contributed a bus, which roams various parts of the Kingdom to spread the Internet and computer applications among all sectors of the society. Having been in this project since 2001, the bus has hosted more than 450,000 students, opening before them the world of Internet.

Sponsorships
Apart from the various projects and activities in the charitable, cultural, social, environmental, and sports sectors that receive Jordan Telecom’s support through the Jordan Telecom Fund, the company has designed a new sponsorship strategy based on the Kingdom’s priority needs and the company mission statement.
In order to define a selection criterion and to identify projects that will receive due assistance, Jordan Telecom set up a sponsorship committee and invited representatives of a number of targeted institutions to learn about their projects and assess how these projects can contribute to national efforts towards sustainable development, in line with the company’s values and “Hello to the Future” promise.

1.Ajyaluna Program:
Focusing on children, Ajyaluna is a program initiated by the Jordan River Foundation, aiming at spreading awareness on child abuse and protecting the innocent groups of the society from all types of violence. Jordan Telecom Fund has contributed a bus in support of the campaign to extend it to remote areas in the Kingdom.

2.Tawjihi Online:
The company designed and activated a website to provide the Tawjihi results on the Internet. This service was provided free of charge and in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and e-dimension.

3.Jordan e-education initiative:
In cooperation with its partner France Telecom, Jordan Telecom sponsored the computerization of the Arabic Language curricula for grades 1-12. The program is being implemented following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education and France Telecom at a cost of JD 500,000.

4.Scholarships and donations:
This form of sponsorship is provided to the less privileged among university students, while plans are underway to set up a school exchange program between Jordanian and French public schools.

5.Young Enterprises:
Driven by His Majesty’s aspirations, Jordan Telecom Fund rewarded innovative enterprises that utilize and develop new technologies and communication tools, as well as create new job opportunities. This initiative is derived from Jordan Telecom’s firm belief in working for a brighter future for all Jordanians to fulfill the ‘Hello to the Future’ promise. A jury was appointed with independent members of the Ministries of ICT and Finance, and representatives of the private sector. This competition was launched in December 2004 and received high interest with more than 50 companies fulfilling the competition's requirements.

Twinning Jordanian and French Schools
Under the Patronage of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah, Jordan Telecom initiated the plan of twinning four Jordanian and French schools with the aim of improving cognitive and cultural exchange between the Jordanian and French teachers and students using Information Technology. The schools are in constant contact through Video Conferencing, which was provided by Jordan Telecom and France Telecom. The twinning came about as Jordan is taking a great leap in e-learning technology. Jordan is now capable of keeping up with developed countries due to these e-learning mechanisms, as well as the advanced and appropriate infrastructure for Information Technology and Communications as a whole.
